Rye

Rye

Rye (Secale cereale) is a type of monocotyledonous plant from the Poaceae family. It is a common agricultural plant grown as a grain, cover and fodder crop.

Part of the biological tribe Triticeae, rye is closely related to barley (Hordeum) and wheat (Triticum).[1] It is an annual herbaceous plant whose grain looks very similar to wheat. However, rye is taller, has a more pointed shape, and rye ears have a larger volume than wheat ears. It is a cross-pollinated crop and blooms with open chaff.
